Russell slips as AI & jobs/rate headlines fuel volatility; miners hold up

Good Morning Investors,
Artificial intelligence continues to create both opportunity and risk. Strong demand for AI infrastructure and data center investment remains supportive for companies supplying compute, networking, and enterprise technology, but elevated valuations and growing skepticism around parts of the AI trade have increased dispersion across the sector. Investors are becoming increasingly selective, rewarding companies with tangible earnings visibility while punishing speculative growth stories more aggressively.
Capital markets also remain uneven for smaller companies. Mining and venture related issuers continue to benefit from improving resource sentiment, but patchy IPO activity and delayed public offerings suggest financing conditions remain challenging for many early stage businesses. Access to capital is improving only selectively, reinforcing the importance of balance-sheet quality and execution.
Today’s session highlights a market driven more by macro expectations than broad risk appetite. Canadian mining and venture names continue to show relative resilience, while U.S. technology remains sensitive to interest rate expectations and AI related sentiment. With employment data and Fed commentary still in focus, investors should expect continued sector rotation and company specific volatility rather than a broad directional move.
